Spring 1

W/B: Monday 22nd and 29th January 2024

In weeks 3 and 4, we continued our ‘Come Outside’ topic with exploring minibeasts and focusing on life of butterflies. Our Topic story ‘Waiting for Wings’ by Lois Ehlert, introduced children to a Life Cycle of a butterfly.

Children learned some new vocabulary e.g., metamorphosis, chrysalis/ cocoon, nectar, and bloom. They talked about minibeasts’ habitats, collected natural materials in the Nature Garden and built our own Bug Hotel.

In Maths, pupils consolidated their knowledge of 2D shapes by making shape pictures of minibeasts and sorting shapes into groups. They recapped on Pattern by extending AB pattern and creating their own pattern with interlocking cubes.

In English, children were introduced to sounds ‘m’, ‘a’, ‘s’, ‘d’, ‘t’ and helped Fred the Frog to blend some CVC words e.g. c-a-t, p-e-g, d-o-g. Children began their preparation for writing by drawing circles, vertical and horizontal lines and crossed lines on paper and in coloured sand.

In PE, we focused on ball and spatial awareness skills. Children bounced, threw and caught the ball, and played team games aimed at moving around the obstacles.

When Dentist Harry visited nursery, children showed great enthusiasm learning about teeth and helped George the Dragon clean his teeth and make healthy food and drink choices.

Well done Bear Cubs and Tiger Cubs, keep up the good work!

W/B: Tuesday 9th January 2024 and Monday 15th January 2024.

We would like to wish a warm welcome back and a very Happy New Year to our lovely nursery pupils and families after what we hope was a joyous and fun filled Christmas holiday. We have loved listening to all your children’s stories about what they have been up to whilst not at school.

This week has seen us learning all about New Years Resolutions and focusing on the story 'Squirrels New Years Resolution'.

The children have been writing their own New Years resolutions, discussing what they would like to get better at in 2024. This has ranged from becoming better at drawing, working on their jumping skills and even eating more healthy food. We are very impressed with the children’s determination to complete their resolutions as they have been practicing already! We have been exploring NUMBERS 1-5 more this week and we will be working further on our understanding of numbers 1-5.

Week 2:

Our topic for this term is Come Outside. This week has seen us exploring the wonderful world of mini beasts which will be our focus for the term using our story of 'Twist and Hop Minibeast Bop'.

We will be exploring mini beasts and all their different varieties. We so far have explored how many legs they each have, how many wings. Why are mini beasts so important to our world? We have even had a go at moving like a mini beast; giving the children a chance to develop their fine and gross motor skills further.

It has been fantastic to see how enthusiastic the children have been upon return and we can see such a grown up change in each and every one of them. We have loved having your children back in Nursery and we can’t wait do lot’s of fun and learning with them over the coming weeks.

- A quick reminder to make sure your child is supplied with spare clothes, shoes and to ensure all their belongings are correctly labelled with your child’s name.
