Byker Primary School

Wider re-opening of school- letter from Headteacher 04.06.20

Byker Primary School remains closed to wider groups

Byker Primary School remains closed to wider groups

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope this letter finds you all safe and well. My thoughts go out to you all who have been affected by COVID-19.

School remains closed to pupils

The Government Guidance for schools continues to prioritise vulnerable children.

‘Children of critical workers, and vulnerable children who are already eligible, will continue to be offered a place, regardless of the year group they are in. Schools must first focus on continuing to provide places for priority groups.'

As we have a large number of vulnerable children and Critical Worker’s children we are unable to open more widely to children outside of these groups. Therefore, we remain closed for the foreseeable future. This will be reviewed weekly and I will still keep you updated with any changes and future plans.

Obviously, we all want to see children return to school, but only when it is safe to do so and when all guidance and advice has been considered and acted upon.

You will always have the choice on whether you feel it is safe to send your child to school during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Learning from Home

I would also like to reiterate how grateful I am for all of the supportive comments and messages that we receive

regarding our home learning on the website. I recognise how difficult this is to manage from home and is far from an ideal situation.

For this half term we are hoping to trial some activities that will could that children receive some online teaching directly from a teacher using video links. This is very much in its early development, but will be tried with some Year 6 families initially, if they wish to take part. Letters will be sent to parents of Year 6 children this week.

For other year groups we are beginning to develop timetables that will run daily with suggested times for activities. You will hopefully see these improvements take place from the week beginning 15/6/20 at the earliest. Until then normal learning will take place online.

I hope everyone continues to stay safe and well in these challenging times.

Best wishes,

John Newton
