Byker Primary School

Letter to parents from Headteacher about Re-opening of school

Please take time to read an update from Mr Newton in regards to the Re-opening of Byker Primary School:

Dear parents/carers,

Re: possible reopening of school to more pupils in June

Firstly, I’d like to thank you for your continuous support in helping your child learn from home. We’ll need to keep going with this for a while yet, so please do continue to do what you can and stay in touch with us about how your child is doing. My overriding message would be to try your best, but ensure that your children are as relaxed and happy as possible before accessing their learning. Our dedicated staff continue to add fresh content to the school website for you to access daily.

School still remains closed.

We are still only currently open for vulnerable pupils and the children of critical workers. You will have probably seen or heard news that schools may reopen on 1June to reception, year 1 and year 6 pupils.

I know that everyone wants to get back to the normality of friends, lessons and school life. Times are really challenging right now across society for all of us and I, like you, would love nothing more than to return our usual routines. However, my first priority, as you’d expect, is the safety and wellbeing of your children, as well as parents and school staff.

I am currently working with the Local Authority, including with Public Health, so that all parents can have confidence in the arrangements for a return of their children. Any return to school will need to be phased and gradual, to allow us to ensure that we have adequate safety systems in place, for when the time is right.

Please try to be patient and I will personally keep you updated over the coming days with further advice and developments.

Warm regards,

John Newton
