Year 1:
Today we came into school to find our classroom had been destroyed and was now a crime scene! We had to work together to investigate what could have happened, who might have done this and why. We looked for clues such as big footprints. Finally, we looked at pictures from our new story in our huddles and wrote down what we could see.
This weeks story focus is on 'Dinosaurs in my school'
Every half-term, EYFS holds opportunities for parents to develop and play alongside their children throughout Pre-school, nursery and Reception. At the start of each session, we work alongside parents to develop a new skill, such as bedtime reading, counting with everyday items in the home, play talk, then parents get the chance to be alongside their children in the setting trying out the new skills.
This half-term we received teacher CPD in Relational Play from Ask Psychology services. We have implemented more whole-class movement breaks and opportunities into our daily timetables, and we have also been developing peer massage and yoga opportunities to regulate and calm pupils following break and lunchtime physical activities.
Tooth decay is something as diet changes have become a national concern. This year, Byker primary School is part of a pilot study to review toothbrushing education for children age 5 and under. Children will be taught how to brush their teeth and how to keep them healthy and clean. They will participate in a daily toothbrush session whilst at school after lunch, and we will also be linking in with the dental pop-up bus.
Year 4 have also been developing their understanding of tooth decay through experimenting with eggs in various substances such as fizzy pop, water, salt water and vinegar.
