This week the children are off to visist the Helipad.

Thank you to the Lighthouse Project who allow us to access their cooking facilities.

Before the event, the children had been learning about the history and significance of the Sycamore Gap Tree, what happened to it, and how new hope has grown from the 39 saplings that were successfully produced from it. They then shared their learning with their peers, helping everyone understand why this tree has meant so much to so many people.

We were delighted that our local youth club was successful in their bid to receive one of these saplings. During the celebration, Bobby-Jay and Cara were chosen to help plant the young tree in the youth club grounds – a moment they will surely remember for years to come.

Meanwhile, Nadia and Harvey shared some beautiful poetry they had written, reflecting on hope, growth and the future of the tree. All of the children also created thoughtful posters, each including their wishes for the sapling as it grows.

The planting was marked with a lovely celebration attended by many members of the community and local stakeholders. It was a proud moment for our School Council to be part of such a meaningful event and to contribute to the story of this very special tree.

We look forward to watching the sapling grow and thrive for many years to come – a lasting symbol of hope, community and new beginnings.

The children have been learning all about Egypt. In art they have learnt the steps to make Papyrus that they will be turning into Egyptian scrolls

Today we came into school to find our classroom had been destroyed and was now a crime scene! We had to work together to investigate what could have happened, who might have done this and why. We looked for clues such as big footprints. Finally, we looked at pictures from our new story in our huddles and wrote down what we could see.

This weeks story focus is on 'Dinosaurs in my school'

Year 4 have also been developing their understanding of tooth decay through experimenting with eggs in various substances such as fizzy pop, water, salt water and vinegar.

28th October, 10am-4pm Learn to craft Yalda Postcards, Afghan Kites, and Dia de Muertos-inspired paper masks.

1st and 2nd November, 10am-4pm Learn to craft Diwali Lanterns and Somali Folklore Creatures.

8th November, 10am-4pm Learn how to make Turkish Marbling Art and Karagöz Shadow Puppets.

16th November, 10am-4pm Learn to craft Eidiya and Sudanese Riverboats.

These sessions will be free, and families are encouraged to drop by between the above times to join in and there will be free refreshments! We feel this would be a fun opportunity for the kids to get out and learn something new, as well as meet other families from similar backgrounds.

They firstly measured their pulse for a minute when resting and then measured it again after taking part in 3 different exercises! Their heart rates increased to over 100 beats per minute!

We are seeking any donations to support the growth of this via drainpipes, large plastic tubing, plastic football nets, wooden planks, plastic crates, role play dressing up ages 6 years upwards, space hoppers, large spinning tops and mud kitchen equipment.
