Autumn 2

W/B: Monday 4th, 11th and 18th December 2023

What a busy three last weeks of the term we had at Nursery!

In Week 5 children were exploring robots and Space following our topic story ‘The Littlest Robot’ by Samuel McGuire.

In Literacy, children were feeding robot with rhyming words and used mark-making robots made of cups to make marks on the writing table. They made robots out of playdough and different junk materials.

In Maths, they compared and measured the robots’ height and ordered them from shortest to tallest, then they compared each other’s height. In Science, children learned about Space, stars, and planets, then observed the Bubbling planets experiment.

Weeks 6&7 opened with the ‘Aliens Love Panta Claus’ by Claire Freedman.

Children were engaged in a fun-filled Christmas activities: painting Wintery scene on foil, making Christmas cards and tree decorations, cutting out pictures from catalogues and glueing them on stockings. In Maths, we practiced counting 1-5 and matching amount to numeral: buttons on snowmen and baubles on Christmas trees.

In Science, children explored ice. They predicted which ingredients would melt it, then observed, and commented on the changes. In Geography, we continued learning about seasons focusing on natural changes in Winter: trees lost all the leaves, it got darker outside, and some animals fell asleep.

It was wonderful to see so many parents attending our Stay& Play sessions, and children singing Christmas songs so beautifully. They were so excited to do Christmas crafts together with their parents! They also enjoyed our Polar Express morning, everyone looking so cosy in their pyjamas sipping hot chocolate and watching the film. The same day Christmas parties, with party food and games, just added more fun!

We hope you all will enjoy your well-deserved Christmas holiday; children have been working so hard practicing the songs and making crafts.

We wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Just a little reminder: The school will be closed on Monday 8th of January 2024 for a Teacher Training Day and will re-open on Tuesday 9th of January 2024.

Weeks 3 and 4 (20th and 27th November)

What a lovely couple of weeks we have had! These weeks we have looked at different occupations and even said what we would like to be when we grow up. Some of the children have said they wanted to be Astronaughts, Firemen, Bin men and some are even enthusiastic future Teachers.

We have explored shapes and discussed the properties of 2D shapes. The children have also enjoyed spotting everyday shapes around our environment, pointing out some objects that the teachers have not noticed, well done!

It was of course at the end of these two weeks we saw the snow. The children enjoyed their P.E lesson this week as we were sledging in the snow! It was so much fun.

We also decorated our classroom for Christmas and you can already feel the festive cheer! Also, a sneaky little Elf has made an appearance which the children are very excited about. We are looking forward to welcoming you all into our classroom soon!

Thank you,

Your Nursery Teachers.
