Autumn 1

~ Week Four ~

29.09.2023

We have had lots of fun this week, helping Colour Monster sort his feelings and creating our very own colour monsters using tubes and collage materials. The children are brilliant at recognising different emotions and they are beginning to develop skills to help them regulate their emotions too.

To help us take a moment of calm in the classroom during our busy day, we have been enjoying taking part in some rainbow breathing (see below):

In maths this week, we have been exploring the composition of 5. We have enjoyed exploring making the number 5 using fingers, objects and five frames in different ways.

We have had a fantastic amount of children returning their completed homework into school this week. Well done to those children who have been putting extra practise into their letter formation smiley

In school, we have continued to learn about our class text 'The Colour Monster' by using different words to describe feelings, create colour monster art work alongside colour mixing with different paints and expressing our feelings using body language and words.

We have continued to practise our subitising skills up to 5 as well as recognising numerals up to 5. Here is a fun song to help with your child with their subitising skills at home:

Here is another game to play at home all about number recognition:

Children have particularly enjoyed spending time outdoors on our balance bikes and taking part in PE lessons with Mr Danquah. Below are some of the wonderful things the children have been up to:

The children in Reception are really settling in now and are quite accustomed to their daily routine. We have even had some children achieving 'Green Moments' for their outstanding behaviour and efforts in school. Well done to those children.

This week we have been learning all about the number 3 and subitising numbers and objects to 3.

Enjoy playing on the game below with your children to help them practise this skill at home.

We have also introduced children to the first 5 letters from Read, Write Inc Set 1 sounds (m,a,s,d,t) and your child has been bringing home a letter each night to practise at home. Today they will receive some QR codes that will take you to a Read, Write Inc video that your child can watch at home (we have also added this on to Tapestry).

Check out the following website that gives parents a little more information on Read Write Inc.

~ Week One ~

08.09.2023

What a fantastic first week back to school we have had. We have had so much fun getting to know each other and exploring our new Reception classroom and outdoor learning area.

Next week we will be introducing the children to the story, 'The Colour Monster' by Anna Llenas. We will be exploring our feelings and emotions and learning how to remain in the green, calm zone of our 'Zones of Regulation'. We will continue to develop our turn taking and listening skills during our independent play.

We are very excited that we will begin to learn some of our sounds to help us with learning to read and write. This week, we will learn the letters 'm' , 'a' , 's' , 'd' and 't' and your child will come home with each letter to practise at home with you. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak with your child's teacher.

We will also be consolidating our knowledge of the numbers 1, 2 and 3 through games and songs. Our Numberblocks friends are always around to help us with this too.

~ Welcome back to School ~

04.09.2023

Welcome to the first half term at Byker Primary School. We are so very excited to welcome all the children back to school this week and have some very exciting changes in our classroom that we think the children are going to love.

We will begin this week by getting to know each other, sharing what we like and dislike, forming friendships and learning our class rules and routines. We are going to have so much fun settling in this week before starting full time next week (week beginning 11th September 2023).

In our first week, we will be reading a story called 'Our Class is a Family' by Shannon Olsen. We have included some home learning activities for you to try together. We hope you have fun. Any activities that you complete can be brought into school, or photographs can be added online to your child's Tapestry account.

We look forward to seeing you all soon! smiley
