Autumn 1

WB 26.09.2022

This week we have continued our theme of feelings and emotions as well as ways to deal with them. We have learnt more about our class zones of regulation board and the best way it can help us regulate our emotions. Every morning, we find our names and choose which zone we are feeling.

In History following on from looking at ourselves as a baby to now, we looked at school uniform from a long time ago, to our school uniform now. We looked at all of the differences and similarities, we thought the hats from the old school uniform were really funny!

During Maths this week, we have took part in lots of practical activities to support our learning when Comparing Groups to 5. We have been absolutely blown away by the children's knowledge of greater than, fewer than and the same as!

Thank you to all of those children who have completed their homework and returned it to school. You will receive new homework every week on a Friday which needs to be returned by Thursday.

Important dates for next week

07.10.2022 -  Story teller time with a story called 'Fly me to the moon'

The Bad Tempered Ladybird

Our Reception classroom has been filled with colour this week as we have continued our learning journey all about feelings and emotions with our book of the week 'The Day the Crayons Quit' written by Drew Daywalt. Each day we have received a letter from a crayon telling us how they are feeling and talked about what makes us feel this way too and what we can do to help.

In Art, we have explored colour mixing and the different marks that crayons can make compared to other mark making tools. Next week, we will make predictions about what happens to crayons when we heat them up and cool them down.

We introduced the children to numbers 4 and 5 this week and the children have impressed us with their super counting skills, counting not only objects but actions too!

During our music lessons, children have been learning about the pulse within songs and wow have our Reception children got some good dance moves!

Thank you to all the children who have brought baby photographs in too, the children have loved sharing them with their classmates and spotting how much they have grown.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and we can't wait to see you back on Monday.

Important dates for next week:

Monday 26th September - European Day (Reception children will be celebrating and learning about different European countries)

Wednesday 28th September - School photography in to take individual photographs

Hello to all our wonderful Reception families!

It has been another super week in Reception, with the children making new friends and settling into the routine of the day with such maturity. Well done to all the Reception children and thank you to their grown-ups for their support and patience in helping their children to settle in.

This week, we have continued reading our Key Text 'The Colour Monster goes to School' written by Anna LLenas and learning all about our feelings and emotions. Together we have created feelings jars, expressed our emotions through music and art as well as exploring the different colours in the story through colour mixing activities.

We have loved learning all about the numbers 1, 2 and 3 using Numberblocks and songs.

Furthermore, we have been learning to read and write the letters 'm' and 'a' and will be coming home this week with a little homework task to further support this.

Next week, we will be identifying the changes a human goes through from baby to adult, so we would love it if children could please bring in a baby photograph to share with their friends. We can't wait to see how much they have changed since they were born.

Also, a reminder that school will be closed on Monday 19th September and we will return on Tuesday 20th September.

What a super first week in Reception we have had. The children have wowed us with their incredible confidence and outstanding behaviour. They have thoroughly enjoyed exploring all the different areas within the classroom and making friends along the way.

We can't wait to have all our Reception friends in together from Monday next week where we will be taking part in activities based around our key text 'The Colour Monster goes to School'.

Until then, have a wonderful weekend.

Our thoughts go out to families who may be struggling with the recent news of the Queen and we are always here if you feel you need any support.
